Update from Ashley Camhi and Stefanie Causey

Good afternoon team! It has been another fun (crazy?) week and we are truly excited about all the work that has been happening. After spending a lot of time on our business plan, we will be submitting it for fiscal sponsorship this week. Thank you to everyone who contributed content and helped in creating what we believe is one incredible document. A special shout out to Chris Ammon for his efforts! If our fiscal sponsorship is approved then we will essentially “borrow” the non-profit status of another organization until ours is approved. This will allow us to apply for and receive grants as a non-profit.

We are also working hard on the new website and every day it looks better and better. Check it out at www.azsustainabilityalliance.com. Note that there is a public calendar in the works and soon you will be able to email in events to have them included on the calendar!

Also this past week we had a lovely meeting with some of the members of the Phoenix March for Science and we are excited to find ways to work together in the future.

We have several key events happening this week:

  • The UN’s World Environment Day is on Monday. They are asking everyone to get out in nature and post pictures of your adventures with the hashtags #WorldEnvironmentDay or #WithNature on your posts. Check out my Facebook post to get all the details.
  • On Tuesday, our Board will have its first official meeting to sign off on the bylaws and discuss next steps.
  • On Thursday, we are co-sponsoring a training with the Center for Biological Diversity in Phoenix on how to approach defending attacks on our public lands. It’s truly important that we have a strong showing, so if you can make it, please sign up here.
  • Last but not least, we have our Adopt-A-Park at Park at the Tempe Center for the Arts on Saturday and we need as many people there as possible since Cox will be there recording video for the Cox Conserves Award for which our own Ashley Camhi is a finalist. For all the details and to RSVP, click here.

This week is a critical week for the Tempe Urban Forestry Program. AZSA members will be meetings with city council members as well as attending the city council meeting on Thursday. If you’re interested in attending or being a part of the initiative, please message Penni Lawson.

Exciting times and more to come soon!  As always, if there are any questions, feel free to ask me or Ashley Camhi, or any of the other leaders of the group (to be found on our About Us page). We are always happy to chat 🙂

Have a great week!
